Malawi President taking a third private trip to RSA
Malawi President Peter Mutharika is expected to travel to South Africa this afternoon on a private trip, a third one in nature since his elections triumph last year.
Chief Secretary to the Government, Justin Saidi, announced this in a statement.
Mutharika will leave the country via Kamuzu International Airport at 2 p.m.
The government has described the visit as a private trip and did not provide further details regarding its purpose or duration.
This will be the third time the President has travelled to South Africa in recent months.
Previous visits were also described as private engagements, attracting public interest due to their frequency.
Government officials have maintained that the President’s travels are conducted in line with established procedures and do not interfere with the running of state affairs.
The administration has not indicated when the 84 year old Mutharika is expected to return to Malawi.
