“Power blackouts probable for tomorrow”
People in the country must expect power blackout tomorrow as the Electricity Generation Company (Malawi) Limited (EGENCO) will conduct sediment flushing and trash raking operations at Tedzani Hydropower Station.
According to a public notice released by the company, the maintenance exercise will take place from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and is aimed at removing accumulated sand, silt, and debris from the station’s water intake system.
EGENCO says the exercise is necessary to improve the station’s efficiency and overall power generation output.
As a result, electricity generation at the Tedzani Hydropower Station will be temporarily suspended during the seven-hour maintenance period.
The company has, however, assured the public that efforts will be made to minimize the impact on electricity supply by increasing power generation from other stations, including Nkula, Kapichira, Wovwe, and diesel-powered plants.
EGENCO has apologized for any inconvenience that may arise from the temporary outage.
