Global news: 1000 days on now after Gaza war
As the war in Gaza reached its 1,000th day, more than 21,500 children, including 1,022 infants, have been killed since fighting began on 7 October 2023, according to the Gaza Government Media Office.
International organisations continue to warn that the humanitarian crisis is worsening as civilian casualties continue to rise.
Meanwhile, the office said the overall Palestinian death toll has risen to 73,066, while 173,514 people have been injured, including more than 44,500 children.
Around 9,500 people remain missing and are believed to be trapped beneath the rubble of destroyed buildings.
According to the office, more than 90 percent of buildings across the Gaza Strip have been damaged or destroyed, while about 80 percent of the territory is now under Israeli control.
Separately, UNICEF said more than 11,000 children have suffered life-changing injuries, including up to 4,000 limb amputations, many carried out under extremely difficult medical conditions.
