Congolese kills wife in Malawi
Police in Dowa have arrested a 44-year-old Congolese national, Wilonje Ettando, on suspicion that he killed his 22-year-old wife, Mapendo Assan, at Dzaleka Refugee Camp in the District.
Dowa Police spokesperson Alice Sitima confirmed the incident, saying the deceased was taken to Dzaleka Health Centre by her relatives together with the suspect, where medical personnel pronounced her dead on arrival.
Sitima said the matter was reported to Dzaleka Police, prompting officers to take the body to Dowa District Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The examination established that the woman died from strangulation, with finger marks found on her neck.
According to Sitima, police investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly argued with his wife after suspecting that she was pregnant.
However, medical examination later confirmed that the deceased was not pregnant.
