Authorities dismiss immediate Curriculum change reports

The Malawi Institute of Education (MIE) has dismissed reports claiming that a new school curriculum will be introduced in September 2026, describing the information as false and unfounded.

The institute says the current curriculum remains the official one for all schools across the country.

In a public notice, MIE advised schools to continue procuring and using approved textbooks and learning materials that are aligned with the existing curriculum. It said there is no immediate nationwide change to the curriculum.

Meanwhie,MIE explained that while a curriculum review is underway, the process is gradual and involves several stages before any changes can be implemented. The institute said the review will take significant time to complete.

As part of the review, MIE said a pilot of the pre-primary curriculum will be conducted in selected primary schools across all districts in September 2026. However, it stressed that the pilot should not be mistaken for the rollout of a new national curriculum.

The institute added that any future curriculum changes will be officially communicated by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology. MIE also encouraged schools and other education stakeholders to continue using approved teaching and learning materials to ensure uninterrupted learning.
