Korean teenager dies in Lake Malawi

Eugene Enoch Kwon, a 17-year-old from South Korea, has died after drowning in Lake Malawi at Cape Maclear in Monkey Bay.

Patrick Mussa, the spokesperson for the Eastern Region Police, has verified the incident, stating it took place yesterday while Eugene was participating in an educational trip to Malawi.

Mussa noted that Eugene was a student at Hampton School in London, UK. He had traveled to Malawi for this educational excursion, accompanied by four teachers and 19 other students.

“On the morning of the incident, the group engaged in snorkelling in the lake. During this activity, Eugene was reported missing, which led to an immediate search operation. After a thorough search, divers found him submerged underwater,” he explained.
