Fallen wall kills three, others injured in Limbe
Three people have died, and 21 others have suffered varying degrees of injuries following the collapse of a warehouse wall they were constructing at GM Plastics Industries in Maone, Limbe Township, Blantyre.
Reports indicate that the deceased were part of a group of around 28 bricklayers and casual laborers who had been working on the warehouse wall for the past two weeks.
On the day of the incident, the workers were engaged in their regular tasks when the wall unexpectedly fell, trapping those present on site.
This led to the fatalities of three individuals, identified only as Pemphero, also known as Mulili, Manyesa, and Bule, with further details about them still pending.
The remaining 21 workers sustained various injuries.
The incident was reported to the Limbe Police Station, prompting officers to quickly respond to the scene.
Upon their arrival, they discovered that the deceased and injured workers had already been transported to Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital.
Subsequent inquiries at the hospital revealed that the three victims were declared dead upon arrival, while the injured workers are currently receiving medical care.
The cause of death was determined to be severe head injuries resulting from suffocation.
