Napoleon Dzombe’s fertilizer project approved

The Malawi Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) has approved the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the proposed Mulalo Granular Fertilizer Production Factory owned by businessman Napoleon Dzombe in Dowa District, allowing the project to move forward.

MEPA said the project was initially sent back to the developer after the Technical Committee identified concerns related to environmental monitoring, waste management and emergency response measures.

The developer later revised the report, and the committee found the changes satisfactory. The authority approved the project during its Board meeting on July 14, 2026, stressing that the factory must comply with all environmental conditions outlined in the approved ESIA and management plans. Any major changes to the project will require prior approval from MEPA.Meanwhile, MEPA said the approval reflects its commitment to balancing national development with environmental protection, ensuring that all projects comply with Malawi’s environmental laws and standards.
