Man jailed for impregnating a teenage girl
The First Grade Magistrate Court in Mulanje District has sentenced 35 year-old Jerason Pigoti to 14 years in prison after he was found guilty of defiling and impregnating a 16 year-old girl.
According to Mulanje Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Joseph Topola, the court heard through State Prosecutor Francis Nanchidwe that Pigoti committed the offence in April this year in Mponda Village in the district.
Topola said that after Pigoti was arrested and brought to court, he denied the allegations. This led police to bring in five witnesses, and the court found him guilty.
Meanwhile, Magistrate George Chimombo sentenced Pigoti to 14 years in jail to serve as a deterrent to others with similar behaviour.
Pigoti comes from Mponda Village, under Senior Chief Mkanda in Mulanje District.
