Kachasu kills Chitipa man
A 54-year-old man named Batison Simbeye has died after reportedly drinking a large amount of local beer called Kachasu on an empty stomach in Njerengwa village, located under Senior Chief Mwaulambya in Chitipa district.
Rabson Mkandawire, the Chitipa Police Public Relations Officer, said that on July 20, 2026, the deceased went out for drinks but did not return home, and his body was discovered near the Mwachihomba River in the area the next day.
Mkandawire further explained that a post-mortem examination carried out by medical staff from Chitipa District Hospital determined that the cause of death was excessive alcohol intoxication due to drinking on an empty stomach.
The police in the district have since issued a warning to the public about the dangers of consuming alcoholic beverages without having eaten, emphasizing that this behavior can lead to deadly outcomes.
