Police net two men for suspected murder

Police in Chitipa have arrested two men in relation to the murder of 60-year-old Flaywell Sichalwe from Yanga One Village, under the jurisdiction of Traditional Authority Kameme.

According to Police Public Relations Officer Sergeant Rabson Mkandawire, George Kalinga, aged 41, and Briton Mwaphachi, aged 45, both hailing from Ipenza 6 Village, were taken into custody on July 21, 2026. This followed investigations driven by intelligence regarding the murder that took place on the night of June 30.

Sichalwe was discovered deceased in a pool of blood within his residence after allegedly returning home from a drinking establishment.

A post-mortem examination revealed that he succumbed to significant blood loss. The suspects are anticipated to face court proceedings soon on a murder charge, in violation of Section 209 of the Penal Code.
