City Council warns on Ndirande illicit land ownership

People illegally occupying public land in Ndirande, Blantyre, have been given 30 days to vacate the area after Blantyre City Council issued an eviction order under the Land Act.

The eviction order, states that the council has established that unknown individuals are illegally occupying, constructing on and using public land designated as a forest reserve without authorization from the council, the government or any other relevant authority.

According to the notice, those who fail to vacate within the stipulated period risk being forcibly removed from the land.

Meanwhile, the council also says offenders will be liable to a K5 million penalty, recovery of eviction costs as a civil debt and possible prosecution under Section 20 of the Land Act.
