Man dies after mine collapses in Kasungu

A 23 year-old man, Wilson Nkhata, has died after a gold mine collapsed in Nkhwambala Village under Traditional Authority Chitathamapiri in Kasungu District.

Kasungu Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Miracle Hauli, confirmed the incident, saying it happened while Nkhata was mining for gold when the pit suddenly collapsed.

Hauli said Nkhata, sustained severe head injuries and lost a significant amount of blood as a result of the accident.

Meanwhile, Nkhata’s body has been taken to Nkhulande Village under Senior Chief Mnyanja in Kasungu, where he came from.

Last year, more than eight people died in Kasungu after mine collapses in more than two separate incidents.
