Chipungu wants apology from Namiwa
Minister of Lands Chimwemwe Chipungu has requested a public retraction and apology from the Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiative (CDEDI) regarding statements made about him.
This request was communicated through his legal representatives, Mchizi and Associates, in a letter dated July 28, 2026, directed to CDEDI Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa.
The letter states that CDEDI conducted a press conference where multiple allegations were made against Chipungu.The law firm characterized these statements as “defamatory, malicious, and reckless.
“CDEDI claimed that Chipungu had purchased seven vehicles valued at approximately MK2.8 billion since taking office as Minister, initiated the construction of a hotel “far exceeding his income,” and was engaged in land dealings involving ADL.
In response to these allegations, Chipungu clarified that he has only acquired two duty-free vehicles since his election as a Member of Parliament, not seven.
He explained that the purchases were financed through loans from Parliament, secured from NBS and FDH banks.
The lawyers cautioned that if CDEDI does not comply, legal action will be initiated against them. CDEDI has not yet responded to this demand.
