Mzuni’s Professor Nyirenda dies

Mzuzu University has announced the death of retired Associate Professor Bright Mathews Chiyandika Nyirenda, one of the founding members of the institution’s Faculty of Tourism, Hospitality and Management.

According to a statement issued by the Office of the University Registrar, Nyirenda died in the early hours of July 28, 2026, at Mzuzu Central Hospital however, his remains are at his residence in St. Augustine, Mzuzu.

The university said Nyirenda made an immense contribution to the growth and development of Mzuzu University through his dedication, leadership and commitment to academic excellence.

It added that his legacy will continue to inspire the university community.Meanwhile, burial for the late Associate Professor Nyirenda is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, to his home village in Chozoli, Rumphi District.
