Bad cooking oil producers busted
The Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has suspended four food processing companies in Blantyre after discovering serious food safety and hygiene violations during a factory inspection exercise.
The inspections, was conducted from July 27 to 31 in the Mapanga Industrial Area, found that the companies had critical non-compliance issues.
Meanwhile,the affected firms are Dilydada Limited, Aimi Industries Limited, 88 Brothers and Tianma Company Limited, which produce cooking oil and maize flour.
MBS says the companies have been ordered to stop production until they address the identified shortcomings.
In addition to the suspension, each company has been charged quarantine fees for products already manufactured and fined MK2 million for non-compliance.
The bureau says it will continue factory inspections and market surveillance to improve food safety and product quality across the country.
