Man arrested for stealing in Mangochi Lodges

Police in Mangochi have arrested 24-year-old Wilson Frezer on suspicion of stealing plasma televisions and bedding from various lodges in the area.

According to Mangochi Police Spokesperson Amina Daudi, lodge owners had reported break-ins by an unidentified thief for the past six months.

“The suspect masqueraded as a customer, reserving a room with a carton that he claimed held a parcel. He would subsequently leave with the carton, only for the owners to find that TVs and bedsheets were missing,” Daudi explained.

His scheme was thwarted at Mogas Lodge when a search of the carton revealed stolen items.

Police have since recovered five televisions in both Mangochi and Dedza.

Frezer, who hails from Nongwa Village, TA Bwananyambi in Mangochi District, is set to face charges of burglary and theft in court.
