Mulanje District Council earns massive development support

Mulanje District Council has received K1.7 billion under the Governance to Enable Service Delivery (GESD) II fund to implement development projects in the district.

The funding was awarded in recognition of the council’s strong performance in promoting good governance, prudent management of public funds, and effective implementation of development projects, which earned Mulanje 17th position out of Malawi’s 28 district councils.

Additionally, the council has also received over K400 million under the Regional Climate Resilience Programme II (RCRP-II) to support climate resilience and development initiatives.

Mulanje District Commissioner Chris Nawata attributed the council’s success to the strong working relationship among traditional leaders, councillors, Members of Parliament, and council staff.

Meanwhile, Council Chairperson Richard Chikhwakhwa said the council will ensure the funds are used for their intended purpose to address the development challenges facing people in the district.
