Parliament goes into forensic probe on Chikangawa plane crash
The parliamentary ad-hoc committee looking into the Chikangawa plane crash has announced that it will soon begin reviewing the medical and forensic evidence concerning the crash victims.
In a statement, chairperson Walter Nyamilandu revealed that the committee has engaged two South African forensic pathologists, Dr. Robert Gabriel Ngude and Dr. Wilson Sibusiso Ntsele, who have already met with the committee to outline their work plan.
Nyamilandu indicated that the initial step will involve examining existing post-mortem reports, medical records, and evidence to pinpoint any gaps in information.
They will also evaluate the handling of evidence and assess Malawi’s capacity to perform DNA tests, toxicology tests, and other forensic analyses.
If deemed necessary, and following legal approval and consultation with families, the experts may proceed to exhume and re-evaluate certain remains.
The committee emphasizes that this process will be conducted with care, legality, and confidentiality to ensure that the investigation yields an independent and trustworthy report.
