Malawi awaits either Mali or Ghana in Wafcon Quarterfinals

History has been made as Malawi’s national women’s football team, the Scorchers, has reached the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Despite suffering a 2-1 defeat to Zambia last night, Malawi still progressed to the next round.

Meanwhile,the Scorchers qualified through the tournament’s ranking system, as Malawi, Nigeria and Zambia all finishing Group C with six points, while Egypt lost all three of their group matches.

The Scorchers are now expected to face the team that finishes second in Group D, either Mali or Ghana, in the quarter-finals.
