Chakwera sad with Brian Banda’s death
Former President of Malawi Lazarus Chakwera has expressed deep sorrow following the death of veteran broadcaster and communications professional Brian Banda.
In a press release dated 9 August 2026, Chakwera extended his condolences to Banda’s wife, children, family and friends.
Chakwera described Banda as a towering figure in Malawi’s media landscape and an exceptional broadcaster who gave Malawians a voice of clarity and truth.
He said Banda mentored and inspired a generation of journalists and broadcasters adding that he modelled the use of one’s distinctive voice to represent public opinion and speak truth to power.
Chakwera said these qualities inspired him to appoint Banda as his Press Secretary in 2020.
Banda’s body will be laid to rest tomorrow, 10 August 2026 at his home in Chileka, Blantyre.
