Fired Partners in Hope Staff members seeking MK1 Billion compensation

At least four former employees of Partners In Health in Neno are pursuing K1 billion in compensation from their previous employer following their retrenchment in 2020.

The group, originally consisting of seven individuals including Shadreck Chipapi, has brought the case before the Industrial Relations Court, which ruled that Partners In Health had terminated their employment unfairly.

The court has yet to evaluate and decide on the compensation amount owed to the former employees. However, in a ruling dated February 17, 2026, Deputy Chairperson of the Industrial Relations Court, Wyson Chamdimba Nkhata, stated that the Registrar would determine the compensation extent.

“The Applicants are entitled to compensation for unfair dismissal. The amount of such compensation will be assessed by the Registrar on a date to be set by the Court, unless the parties reach an agreement on the sum. Judgment is entered accordingly,” part of the judgment states.

Labour law and industrial relations expert Paul Namondwe, representing the four former employees, mentioned that they are awaiting the court’s decision on the issue.
