Malawi hosting African Parliament Conference

Malawi has commenced hosting the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Africa Region Conference and Annual General Meeting, anticipating the attendance of over 300 parliamentary delegates in Lilongwe.

Today, the Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Sameer Suleman, extended a warm welcome to a delegation from South Africa, which includes the Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane, and the Deputy Speaker of the Free State Legislature, Nolitha Ndungane.

The conference has already begun with several committee meetings taking place at the Parliament Building in Lilongwe.

These meetings encompass the Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians Steering Committee, the Programme, Planning and Finance Committee, and the CPA Secretariat.

In addition, the conference aims to unite Speakers, Presidents of Parliaments, and Senators from the region to deliberate on issues related to parliamentary collaboration and development.

The official opening ceremony is set for Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) Auditorium in Lilongwe.
