Malawian woman arrested for stealing from American

Police in Balaka District, have arrested Rabecca Selemani, 30, who works as a cleaner at Liwonde Sun in the district, on suspicion of stealing from an American citizen K2.7 million.

Liwonde Police Spokesperson Ngwashape Msume confirmed the incident, saying that, the suspect was working as a security guard in the room where the foreign national, Monica Grant, 47, was staying.

He said that in the evening of that day, Grant was shocked to find about K1.9 million and $502 missing, and reported the matter to Mangochi Turn Off Police.

Msume said that police went to the woman’s house to search her and recovered all the money.

Selemani, who hails from Mtila T/A Sitola village in Machinga District, will appear in court soon.
