Mzuzu Council stops road fees collection

Mzuzu City Council has put a temporary halt to the collection of road user fees, citing issues with network connectivity and traffic congestion at certain collection points.

This suspension follows the council’s launch of the initiative aimed at generating funds for road repairs in the city just a day prior.

The council has stated that it is actively working to resolve these issues before the collection process can recommence.

According to the new fee structure, small vehicles are charged K1,000, medium vehicles K3,000, and large vehicles K5,000 when entering the city via the Lusangazi, Jowelo, and Dunduzu Road checkpoints, with the council anticipating to collect approximately K1 billion within a three-month period.
