Zambia resumes vote counting
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has resumed the counting of votes following an earlier suspension triggered by reports of ballot paper theft and violence against election officials.
Zambia held presidential, parliamentary and local government elections on Thursday, with attention now turning to the counting process and the official results.
Meanwhile, President Hakainde Hichilema is seeking a second term after his government steered the major copper-producing country out of a debt crisis since taking office in 2021.
He faces competition from 13 other presidential candidates, including Brian Mundubile, who leads an opposition alliance and is considered one of his strongest challengers.
