Eating within: Bad Chief arrested in Dowa

Police in Dowa have arrested a 49-year-old man, Rickson Maidaida from Jumbe village, Traditional Authority Chiwere, on charges of allegedly defiling his 5-year-old daughter in Chavu village within the district.

According to the police, the arrest was made following a report from the victim’s mother, who disclosed that the suspect, her ex-husband whom she divorced five years ago, occasionally visits their children and stays overnight at their home.

Alice Sitima, the spokesperson for Dowa Police Station, stated on Thursday that the suspect had gone to the house where he spent the night in the kitchen.

The next day, while the mother was away, he sexually assaulted his daughter.

Sitima reported that upon the mother’s return in the afternoon, she discovered the suspect in the act. Upon checking her child, she noticed blood stains and unusual fluid on her legs.

The victim was subsequently taken to Dowa District Hospital, where a medical examination confirmed the occurrence of sexual abuse.
