Woman killed in terrible Chikwawa accident

An unidentified woman has lost her life, and 12 others have been injured after a minibus they were in overturned on the M1 Blantyre-Chikwawa road.

As reported by the district police spokesperson, Dickson Matemba, the incident involving vehicle registration number BV5500 took place near Thabwa Roadblock when the driver failed to navigate a turn and swerved into the opposite lane.

“The minibus driver, Chimwemwe Thebuka, fled the scene following the accident, and efforts are ongoing to locate him. Once apprehended, he will face charges for causing death through reckless driving, in violation of Section 126 of the Road Traffic Act.

“In the meantime, local police are advising drivers to consistently follow road safety protocols when navigating the Chikwawa escarpments to prevent accidents,” Matemba stated.
