The Fiscal Police in Lilongwe has arrested Andrew Mpesi, the former Chief Elections Officer of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).
Chrispine Ndalama, Mpesi’s lawyer, has verified this information, stating that Mpesi was summoned to the Fiscal Police offices in Area 6 along with four other MEC officials, including the Director of Human Resources for the Commission.
Ndalama mentioned that he received a call from Mpesi, who confirmed their arrest.
After being interrogated by the police, Mpesi and the other officials were informed of their arrest and that they would be moved to a police cell, although he was not immediately informed of the specific police station they were being taken to.
