Activist Agape Khombe arrested
Police in Lilongwe have taken activist Agape Khombe into custody for purportedly engaging in cyberbullying against private practice lawyer Edgar Kachere over alleged property management belonging to football icon Tabitha Chawinga.
State prosecutor Prescott Mwayiulipo reported that Khombe is currently held at Maula Prison following his arrest last Wednesday.
On Friday, he faced charges of offensive communication and cyberstalking under the Electronic Transactions and Cyber Security Act.
Mwayiulipo explained that the case pertains to Facebook posts made by Khombe, in which he accused lawyer Kachere of deceiving footballer Tabitha Chawinga in a real estate transaction involving a house in Lilongwe.
He further stated that Khombe was denied bail due to his previous failure to comply with bail conditions in a defilement case.
Khombe is being represented by lawyer Viva Nyimba, who has not yet provided a statement regarding the situation.
