Measles strike Kasungu

Kasungu District has reported more than 90 measles cases from June 2025 to June of this year.

Kondwani Mutowa, the District Immunisation Coordinator for Kasungu, confirmed this situation, linking the rise in cases to a significant vaccine rejection rate among certain parents who are hesitant to vaccinate their children.

“As a district, we have documented 90 cases. On a national scale, Malawi has seen over 400 cases. Consequently, we are planning a campaign for Rubella and measles from September 21 to 25 this year,” he stated.

Additionally, Braxton Banda, Chairperson of the Kasungu Civil Society Organisations Network, emphasized the importance of effective community engagement to shift public perceptions.
