Yeremia Chihana suspended as Blantyre Water Board Boss

Yeremia Chihana has been suspended from his position as Chief Executive Officer of the Blantyre Water Board (BWB) due to allegations of serious misconduct and abuse of authority.

According to a letter, Chihana is accused of dishonestly seeking funds for a program aimed at modernizing the institution.

It is claimed that Chihana misrepresented that the BWB board had approved the funding.

Additionally, the board alleges that Chihana appointed an acting Director of Finance without their knowledge or consent.

Moreover, Chihana is also accused of securing an overdraft facility of K500 million from First Capital Bank without the board’s authorization.

Chihana took on the role of CEO on April 13, 2026, with his contract set to expire on April 12, 2029.
