Malawian Soldier convicted of rape

Diof Simaone, a 36-year-old soldier from Kamuzu Barracks, has been found guilty of engaging in sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl, resulting in her pregnancy.

The Senior Resident Magistrate Court, represented by Central West Region Prosecutor Thandizo Chingaro, learned that Simaone had sexual relations with the minor on four occasions between April and August 2026.

His conviction followed the testimonies of four witnesses presented by the prosecution.

Chingaro urged the court to impose the maximum penalty, emphasizing that Simaone had a duty to protect the child.In his defense, Simaone pleaded for forgiveness, expressing his desire to support both the victim and her child.

Senior Resident Magistrate Bracious Kondowe of Lilongwe has postponed the sentencing until next Tuesday.
