Malawi deports 13 foreigners

The Central Region Immigration Office has deported 13 foreign nationals for violating Malawi’s immigration laws.

The deportees comprise 12 Ethiopians and one Nigerian national.

According to the immigration authorities, the 12 Ethiopians were arrested for illegally entering Malawi, contrary to Section 21(1) of the Immigration Act, while the Nigerian was arrested for unlawfully residing in the country.

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services says the 13 were deported on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, through Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) to their respective countries after completing the necessary legal and administrative procedures.

The deportees have also been declared prohibited immigrants, meaning they are barred from re-entering Malawi in accordance with the country’s immigration deportation comes barely a month after the department deported 14 other foreign nationals in August for various immigration violations.

The Department has since reaffirmed its commitment to promoting safe, orderly and regular migration while taking enforcement action against people who violate Malawi’s immigration laws.
