Gunmen arrested in Chikwawa

The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has arrested two Mozambican nationals after they were found in possession of four firearms and other offensive weapons.

The suspects have been identified as 25 year-old Julio Aromado and 30 year-old Steven George.

They were arrested on September 27, 2026, at Kamuzu Bridge Roadblock in Chikwawa after allegedly attempting to bypass the roadblock.

Police recovered an AK-47 rifle, two Star pistols, a Heckler and Koch gun, a pick, a panga knife and a pound hammer from the suspects.MPS has warned members of the public against possessing illegal firearms and offensive weapons, saying those found with such items will face the law.

Meanwhile, Police have also reminded the public that the ongoing amnesty period allows people to surrender illegal firearms to the police.
