Rapist jailed in Nkhotakota

At Nkhunga First Grade Magistrate’s Court in Nkhotakota, 27-year-old Mavuto Lomosi has been sentenced to a 10-year prison term for sexually abusing a minor with intellectual disabilities in the Dwangwa area.

According to state prosecutor Micheas Chatsira’s testimony before the court, Lomosi encountered the girl on July 30, 2026, at a drinking establishment in Dwangwa Trading Centre.

He subsequently escorted her to a private room where he engaged in sexual intercourse with her.

During his mitigation plea, Lomosi requested leniency, arguing that individuals at drinking venues often operate under alcohol’s influence and lack the capacity to accurately determine a girl’s age.

Lomosi is a resident of Kutha Village, situated under Traditional Authority Kanyenda within the district.
