“Mutharika is performing , BUT”NAP says

Peter Mutharika

The National Advocacy Platform (NAP) has issued a measured endorsement of President Peter Mutharika’s inaugural year in office, while emphasizing that his administration must transition from commitments and policy declarations to tangible outcomes that everyday Malawians can experience.

In an evaluation authored by NAP Chairperson Benedicto Kondowe and National Coordinator Baxton Nkhoma, the organization acknowledges that Government has established certain groundwork for economic revitalization but continues to grapple with significant unresolved issues.

NAP notes that inflation has declined from 28.2 percent in August 2025 to 20 percent in August 2026, while food inflation decreased to 13.4 percent.

However, the organization contends that these gains have not yet delivered adequate relief to households, as non-food inflation persists at 31.8 percent and the overall cost of living remains elevated.
