Chakwera leaves Malawi for Ghana

Former Malawi President and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president Lazarus Chakwera has left the country for Accra, Ghana, to attend the 10th Triennial World Assemblies of God Congress (WAGC 2026).

Chakwera is accompanied by former First Lady Monica Chakwera.

By expectation, Chakwera, the former president of the Malawi Assemblies of God, is attending the congress to participate in spiritual discussions and engagements with global delegates.

Notably, this is the first time the 115-year-old movement is hosting its international congress in Africa.

Under the theme “Commissioned—One Mandate, Every Nation”, the event features notable speakers such as former Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama, Rev. Dominic Yeo, Rev. Stephen Wengam, Rev. Doug Clay, and Bishop Dag Heward-Mills.

Chakwera is scheduled to conclude his trip and return to Malawi on October 20, 2026.
