ACB stops corrupt recruitment at National Audit Office

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has instructed the National Audit Office (NAO) to annul its 2026 recruitment process for the positions of Assistant Auditor General (IT/IS Forensic) and Auditor, following investigative findings that revealed examination paper breaches and an alleged improper payment involving a high-ranking official.

According to a statement endorsed by ACB Acting Director General Gabriel Chembezi, the bureau’s investigation determined that examination materials were disseminated through an internal NAO WhatsApp group, and that a senior official purportedly accepted a bribe from one of the candidates.

The statement additionally indicates that the bureau has mandated NAO to undertake a comprehensive recruitment process to guarantee openness, impartiality, and equitable opportunities for all candidates.

Furthermore, the statement notes that the ACB will initiate distinct criminal proceedings against persons implicated in the suspected misconduct.

In related developments, National Anti Corruption Alliance Chairperson Michael Kaiyatsa has expressed appreciation for the ACB’s intervention, emphasizing that the NAO situation should function as a cautionary reminder for the bureau and comparable organizations to examine other public sector institutions.
