“You have bad Degrees,” Nche tells University of Lilongwe
The National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) has mandated the University of Lilongwe (UNILIL) to revoke degrees conferred to certain graduates of 2025 and to cease all academic programs that do not possess official accreditation.
In a press release, NCHE specifically directed UNILIL to rescind qualifications from all 2025 graduates who were admitted into Year One with an ABMA Level 4 Diploma and two years of prior education.
Those impacted are required to re-enroll for an additional two years to fulfill all necessary academic requirements before the university can reissue their degrees.
This action is part of NCHE’s wider enforcement initiative for this quarter.
The regulatory body has recently renewed accreditation for certain degrees at Exploits University, imposed stringent conditions on others, and has rejected the registration of two new programs.
In the meantime, education analyst Benedicto Kondowe remarked that the regulator’s action was long overdue.
He further noted that compromised qualifications negatively affect more than just individual students.
“If employers or universities question the validity of our degrees, the entire nation’s reputation is at stake,” Kondowe stated.
