Crackdown: Govt to review old contracts, employment deals

The Treasury has instructed all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to submit contracts, agreements, guarantees, consents, and employment-related contracts that were signed between September 2023 and September 2025 for evaluation.

In an internal correspondence that we have reviewed, directed to all controlling officers and heads of government departments, Secretary to the Treasury Cliff Chiunda stated that this initiative aims to assess contracts, including those whose values have been increased through addendums.

As per the letter, in cases where contracts have been adjusted upwards, MDAs are required to provide the original contract amount along with the addendum, a rationale for the increase, and proof that procurement approval procedures were adhered to.

The Treasury has also cautioned that funding for works and services associated with the contracts under review will be suspended until the evaluation process is finalized.
