Zomba tricksters finally arrested
Police in Zomba have arrested three individuals for fraudulently acquiring a total of K1.3 million, having deceived community members with promises of constructing free houses for them.
Zomba Police’s deputy spokesperson reported that the trio, who pretended to be donors, included Adamu Juta (58), Cecilia Lipenga (35), and Vincent Wisky (48). They were taken into custody by officers from Chingale on May 30.
“Juta claimed to be a devoted Muslim from Blantyre and, along with his accomplices, visited Kalunduwiche 3 village, asserting that they represented a charitable organization dedicated to building homes for vulnerable individuals. The suspects persuaded potential beneficiaries to pay K10,000 each as a registration fee to qualify for the housing aid,” Mwale stated.
Mwale also mentioned that after police investigated the matter, they successfully arrested the three and recovered 44 completed registration forms along with cash.
