Beer kills hungry man in Mangochi

A 23-year-old man named Chris Nyenje has died at Mpilipili Trading Center in Mangochi district, reportedly due to excessive consumption of the distilled spirit known as kachasu on an empty stomach.

According to police reports, Nyenje, who was known to be a habitual drinker, was last seen at his home last Sunday before he went missing and was found dead near a drinking establishment at the Mpilipili trading center the following day.

Mike Kamanga, the spokesperson for Makanjira Police, stated that detectives and medical personnel from a nearby health center quickly arrived at the scene. A postmortem examination later determined that the cause of death was hypoglycemia, which was attributed to high alcohol consumption.

The deceased was a resident of Makanjira village, under the Traditional Authority of Makanjira in Mangochi.

In the meantime, police have advised the public to ensure they eat adequately before engaging in drinking activities to prevent similar occurrences.
