Husband full of jealousy arrested
Police in Mzuzu have arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly demolishing a house that was under construction in Kaviwale Township, resulting in damages estimated at K4 million.
The individual, identified as Alfred Nyirenda from Kamtambo Village, Traditional Authority Timbiri in Nkhata Bay District, is accused of destroying the building on April 19, 2026, before fleeing the location.
As reported by the police, the house was being constructed by Nyirenda’s wife, Beauty Manda, who is currently residing in South Africa. Manda had been sending funds to her mother to supervise the construction, which had already reached the roofing stage.
After the incident, the builder informed Manda, which led her to file a report with the police. Investigations subsequently resulted in Nyirenda’s arrest.
Sergeant Edson Chipeni, the Assistant Public Relations Officer for Mzuzu Police Station, confirmed both the arrest and the motive behind the act.
“During questioning, he confessed to damaging the house out of suspicion that his wife was involved in a romantic relationship in South Africa,” stated Sergeant Chipeni.
Nyirenda is anticipated to appear in court shortly to face charges of malicious damage.
The police have urged the public to handle domestic disputes through legal means instead of resorting to the destruction of property.
