Confusion all over Kamuzu Stadium
Blantyre is buzzing with confusion as the FDH Bank Premiership launch hangs in the balance as fans do not know where the opening match will take place.
Defending champs Mighty Mukuru Wanderers were set to face Karonga United at Kamuzu Stadium, but the venue’s fate is now uncertain.
The Super League of Malawi (SULOM) lists Kamuzu Stadium as the venue, but the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) deems it unfit for elite matches, citing turf and structural risks.
“I am totally distracted,” says Wanderers fan Mollen Nankhumwa.
“We hear the league is launching, but then we’re told the stadium is a death trap. Where are we going?”
Vendors and fans alike are feeling the pinch, with some losing out on match-day profits.
Sponsors FDH Financial Holdings say they’re ready to go ahead, but the question remains: will the game happen at Kamuzu Stadium, or will it be remembered as the “ghost opener” of 2026?
