Man sent to jail for rape
The Phalombe First Grade Magistrate’s Court has imposed a 10-year prison sentence with hard labor on George Makuwira, a 27-year-old primary school teacher, for engaging in sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl.
State prosecutor Maurice Walumbe informed the court that between January and March 2026, the defendant had sexual relations with the victim three times in a maize field adjacent to the school grounds.
When brought before First Grade Magistrate Leonard Mtosa, Makuwira admitted his guilt regarding the charge.
In his plea for leniency, he stated that he is a first-time offender, suffers from diabetes, and has children to support.
Delivering the sentence, Magistrate Leonard Mtosa imposed a 10-year prison term, intended to serve as a deterrent to potential offenders.
