Chilima plane crash probe on the radar

The Parliament of Malawi has declared that a new investigation into the plane crash on June 10, 2024, which resulted in the deaths of nine individuals, including Vice-President Saulos Chilima, will commence by mid-May 2026, after the preparatory phase has been completed.

In a press release issued today, Walter Nyamilandu Manda, the chairperson of the Parliamentary ad-Hoc committee on the plane crash, stated that the team is now prepared to initiate the inquiry and is dedicated to ensuring a credible process.

The committee has already finalized essential planning stages, which include establishing objectives, drafting terms of reference, and preparing its methodology.

The inquiry will encompass safety audits, forensic investigations, and post-mortem examinations, along with site visits and evidence collection.

In the meantime, the public has been urged to provide any relevant information, with the committee guaranteeing confidentiality and transparency throughout the process.
