Four die in terrible Chitipa road accident
Four people have lost their lives, and several others have been injured in a tragic road accident that took place in the early hours of today at Tenenthe along the Chitipa-Karonga M26 road.
Karonga Police Public Relations Officer, Rose Chipyola, has confirmed the identities of the deceased as Moses Ngosi, 31, from Mwawembe Village, T/A Kyungu in Karonga, Innocent Sikana, Steven Junior, and one unidentified male.
Chipyola reported that a Mitsubishi Canter with registration number KK 9912, driven by 39-year-old Moses Mvula, was en route to Karonga carrying bags of beans and ten passengers in the cargo area.
As the vehicle approached the slopes of Tenenthe, the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to collide with a road embankment before it overturned.
Chipyola further stated that the four victims succumbed to their injuries before receiving medical attention at Karonga District Hospital due to severe head and internal injuries, while the driver and other passengers suffered injuries of varying severity and are currently hospitalized at the same facility.
