One year old girl drown in a water basin
A one-year-old girl named Aisha Banda has died after drowning in a water basin at Mchilembe village, located in the Traditional Authority area of Zolokere in Rumphi district.
As reported by Noel Kamchenga, the Public Relations Officer of Rumphi Police, the child’s father, Mathews Banda, left home early as he typically does to work as a mechanic in the Zolokere area, leaving his wife and child behind.
Subsequently, the child’s mother, Trifonia Mvula, also departed from home to fetch water from a well for household use, leaving the child asleep inside the house. Upon her return, she placed the basin of water outside and went back to the well while the child remained asleep.
When she returned from her second trip to the well, she was shocked to discover her crawling child had drowned in the basin of water. She immediately called for assistance and rushed the child to the hospital, where she was sadly pronounced dead.
The incident was reported to the Hewe police unit, and officers, along with medical personnel, visited the scene. A postmortem examination revealed that the cause of death was suffocation due to drowning.
