Prison Break: Inmate at Ntcheu prison ESCAPES

A prisoner at Ntcheu prison is suspected of escaping earlier today.

Reports indicate that the suspect was one of the other inmates who had gone out to work at a facility in the Newlines area of the prison.

Witnesses said the inmate was seen jumping over a mound of earth he had dug to level the foundation of a house being built there, as the area is on a steep slope.

The suspect then entered the nearby fields and crossed the river, where he was never seen again.

Prison guards fired shots to alert the inmate that he might have stopped, but he did not stop.

After searching, they only managed to find a shirt that the inmate had taken off, perhaps for fear of being recognized by the guards.

Meanwhile, Ntcheu prison warden Winiko Joseph confirmed the incident, but said he could not elaborate because he had not received a report on the incident.

“Even his name or his hometown is difficult for me to give you at this time. But one of the prisoners has definitely escaped. First of all, we should also commend our soldiers for being able to protect the remaining prisoners, who were there in large numbers, from the escapees. This is a feat of skill, especially considering that the incident took place in a civilian area, not in our permanent quarters,” said Joseph.
